How to Maintain Your Garage Floor for Long-Term Durability

A well-maintained garage floor can last for many years, even with heavy use. However, it is important to follow a few simple tips to keep your floor looking its best.

How to Clean Tile Floors

  • Sweep or vacuum regularly. This will help to remove dirt and debris that can scratch the surface of your floor.
  • Clean spills as soon as possible. While tiles are very stain resistant, chemical spills can stain your floor if they are not cleaned up promptly. Use a mild detergent and warm water to clean spills.
  • Use a floor cleaner specifically designed for tile floors. Racedeck Tile Clean and Racedeck Tile Restore are specifically designed for cleaning polypropylene tiles.
  • Avoid using harsh chemicals. Harsh chemicals can damage the surface of your floor.

How to Clean Coated Polyurea Floors:

  • Regular Light Cleaning: For routine maintenance, a simple solution of Dawn dish soap and warm water works wonders. Use a soft mop or cloth to gently clean the surface, removing dirt and grime. This method is excellent for everyday upkeep and preventing buildup.
  • Addressing Stained Areas: For tougher stains, a stronger approach is needed. Create a solution using TSP (trisodium phosphate) cleaner and water, following the manufacturer’s instructions. Apply the solution to the stained areas and use a non-abrasive scrub pad to gently work on the stain. Be sure to rinse the area thoroughly with clean water afterward.
  • Preventing Scratches and Damage: Like tile, it’s crucial to minimize abrasive contact. Sweep or vacuum regularly to remove loose debris that could scratch the polyurea coating. Avoid dragging heavy or sharp objects across the floor.
  • Prompt Spill Cleanup: Polyurea is highly resistant, but immediate cleanup of spills prevents potential staining or chemical reactions. Use a clean cloth to blot up spills, and then clean the area with the Dawn dish soap solution.
  • Avoid Harsh Chemicals: While polyurea is durable, harsh chemicals can still damage the coating over time. Stick to recommended cleaning solutions and avoid using strong solvents or acids.

Additional tips

  • Protect your floor from heavy objects. Place mats or rugs under heavy objects to protect your floor from scratches and dents.
  • Avoid using abrasive cleaners. Abrasive cleaners can scratch the surface of your floor.

By following these simple tips, you can help to keep your garage floor looking its best for many years to come.
